Upper Welland

Again the Margaret Davis Hall was bursting at its seams for our October Light Bite Lunch now meeting on the third Wednesday of the month.  The talk was given by our new steward, Eleanor Broomhead, was very interesting indeed. It was concerned with two years of living and working in the country on everyone’s lips, Japan.  At the time of writing I am wondering if their team might lift the World Rugby Cup.  You might know the answer to that when you read this! Eleanor admitted that she had expected an audience of 6-8 people.  She faced 17!

My wife, Judy, is always looking for new speakers for our monthly meetings.  I wonder if there might be newcomers in our churches who would be willing to come and speak to us?   Maybe our old friends, too, might have something new to share. Our next Light Bite Lunch (now with a winter menu) will be held on November 20th from 12.45 pm.

We enjoyed our Harvest Thanksgiving last month led by our friend, Carolyn Proctor. The Monday Evening Harvest Supper was very enjoyable, too, and raised a useful sum for ‘All we Can’.

Last, but not least, on October 23rd we bade farewell to our dear friend, Agnes Holmes.  She had found a spiritual home at Upper Welland for the past few years.  She was to be seen at many of our activities, from Bible Study to Carpet Bowling.  Every Sunday she read the designated readings in her pew Bible once she was settled.  I shall never forget the crouched care with which she took aim when bowling, before sending the bowl to the very spot she had chosen. May she rest in Peace in the place to which her whole life was directed.
